i *heart* wallpockets

I've been wanting to make a wall organizer out of fabric for a long time and when I saw this, I was inspired to give it a go. Of course since everything coming out of my studio is patchwork, it had to be a patchwork wallpocket. After sewing up three rows of pockets on to a piece of linen, I stretched it over a canvas I had lying around in my studio. Its perfect for holding bills, stationery, sewing tools, you name it! I think next time around I will make the patchwork bands narrower, so it looks less "busy". But other than that, I'm happy with my first attempt. I foresee many patchwork wallpockets in the near future.

I'll leave you with a photograph of my little one. He's talking a lot now and just started walking. He's growing up way too quickly for this mama.

canvas, huh? nice. i'm heading to the (home) depot for some homasote (sp?) with a similar thought about wall organization. but not too similar. i promise.

it's perfect for everything!! i am going to email you with some specific questions!
xo,

You are so good.

This is such a great idea, and you pulled it off beautifully.

sally - so fantastic.
i've been thinking of a way to do that and none of my ideas even came close!
i must buy that book!
and you probably don't want to hear this, but little j is even looking older now - so, so cute.
it's probably good i don't live nearby, because i wouldn't be able to resist squeezing your boys tightly every now and then! they always look so squeezable

p.s. cool banner, too

OH MY GOSH that is superb. Gorgeous!

the wall must feel so lucky! what a fantastic idea to put it onto a canvas, just that much more sturdy.

baby j, what are you doing to me? cant wait to give you squeezes...

Oh, Sally! It's gorgeous and patchwork. I must try one!

Swoon! I love this wall organizer (and Baby J too!). Did you make the ABC riboon yourself, or find it somewhere?

It's perfect Sally - I'm going to make one - Yay!!

great idea and it looks great too!

that is excellent.

and beautiful, as one would expect.

Beautifully done! Useful and pretty! Baby J is just delicious. ;-)

I feel like all I ever say when I leave a comment here or elsewhere lately is "lovely." I mean, your wall pocket [along with the other things I've commented on] *is* lovely but I need to come up with something else to say...at least another word.

Can you say a bit more about how you constructed this? Did you just wing it or did the book provide some pictoral instructions that you used? This looks like a pretty straight forward project but knowing me I'd end up with a mess of fabric if I just went for it.

walking talking?! baby j slow down! it does go by so so quickly! especially with no.2 don't you think?

love love the pockets. but you could've guessd that?!

wow sally! that is so wonderful. I absolutely love it and covet it!! :)
You are so good! It's so inspiring...and so much more fun than my boring old bulletin board!

My husband often gets "depressed" (as he puts it) about how fast his little girls are growing up. He puts them in a big bear hug as if this will squeeze the growing out of them or something.
It all goes too quickly.

i love the stretched on canvas idea - that is genius. gives it more structure and less floppiness. way pretty, too!

Brilliant! It's a functional work of art!

Love the patchwork and the alphabet ribbon so much!

Ooh, I love it! This might have to be my first project when I get my new craft room set up... So handy, yet like artwork!

adorable wall pockets and an even more adorable litte one -- so sweet!

Oh my gosh, how excellent is that?!! I have so many loose paper items. Something like this would bring such marital harmony to my home. ;0)

And how cute is Baby J. today? Such a serious look for one so young.

i*heart* your wall pocket!
a perfect meeting of beauty and practicality.
lovely.

Too cute! I'm always excited when I see a new post from you!

I so need (want!) one of these. And you call yourself a beginner. Pish posh :)
