made by hand

I hope you all had a lovely Thanksgiving Day. We shared a wonderful meal with our friends [who happen to live six houses down from our house]. I spent most of the day in the kitchen preparing pumpkin pie, apple crisp, green beans + shallots, mashed potatoes and cranberry sauce. We had a yummy spread of food and every belly left full + content. [We'll be returning for leftovers this evening.]

Thank you for all the nice comments regarding the goods I made for ReForm School. I admit I was a bit nervous since the owners had never seen my handmade goods in person. I was a little worried they might be disappointed. So I was thrilled when I received a nice message from them letting me know they were really happy with the order. Phew!

Have I mentioned that I love little details? Well, I do. I was hoping to order some custom clothing labels for the patchwork + bibs and bebe + onesies, but it wasn't in the budget. These are the times when I'm kicking myself for not purchasing a Gocco machine [pre-extinction days]. But who knew a custom rubber stamp + fabric stamp pad + linen = custom clothing labels? I purchased a custom rubber stamp at our local stationery shop for $5. [They goofed a bit and made the "+" sign too big, but the lady was so nice I didn't want to complain. Of course the OCD side of me looks at the gigantic "+" sign everytime I see it.] After stamping your "design" on fabric, heat set the ink with an iron and voila, custom clothing labels. [Note: Make sure the stamp pad you purchase is intended for fabric.]

I was happy with the results.

And I always have fun designing collateral for my business. [That is my all-time favorite photograph of the boys, taken over a year ago.]

This looks so so great Sally. I look to you for the details, you do them incredibly well. Glad to hear your Thanksgiving was nice. And what a coincidence, we had greenbeans and shallots too, an old Martha recipe.

Everything you make is beautiful!!!!!!

Absolutely perfect! I love the stamp on linen! I have a hard time finding plain linen tape like that - any sources? You dinner sound great - we also had green beans with shallots! Must be a popular dish for Thanksgiving!

what a great alternative to spending all that $ on custom labels. these look great. is it possible to cut a little at the ends of the "+" to make it a little smaller? just an idea.

Ha! That photo is so cute. And your love of details shows.

hey! you are welcome to my gocco anytime. it sits sad and lonely in my closet...

BUT, they stamps look good and tiffany might have the right idea. Can't wait to see you guys.

Your attention to detail is devine. I swoon every time I open your blog from all the loveliness. Your taste for design is impecable!

Thanks for the tag tip! Great idea!

Cute labels and I love the card with the kids on....very beautiful!
*Course they loved your stuff at ReForm School!!!

We didn't just love it, we LOVED it!! It's all even more beautiful in person and everything is selling like hotcakes! We hope to work with you a long, long time and we sooo appreciate your amazing attention to detail.
Oh, have we mentioned your boys are adorable??
Thanks A million Sally!

Neato labels - the big + sign gives it more character! I wouldn't have complained either...:-)

Sally, your things are always so beautiful and the labels and "collateral" just complete the picture. I have "OCD" too and totally relate to your fixation with the +, but it looks fine to me.

Thanks for the look at your new labels! I'm about to run out of mine and was considering what to do, I think I'll try your approach.

I have been desperate for an inexpensive label solution!! Thank you so much. Brilliant.

The labels look great. Such a creative idea!

oh - i love the label idea!

Your labels look lovely. You should be thankful you DIDN'T go the gocco route for them -it's fussy and hit or miss on the results, in my opinion. Where did you get your stamp? I got one before I tried gocco, and the place that did it couldn't do type that small, so the whole stamp came out too big (and drove me nuts). I also used it on cotton tape, which I think is too textured. The linen looks like it works great -more smooth.
CUTE photo of the boys:)

from one OCD to another, what about just stamping on the inside of the onesies and heat-setting it instead of a label? I say this because I cut the labels out of all my clothes... your work is always so inspiring Sally, thank you.

Gorgeous as always! Love the stamp idea; it is so felxible, too. Will have to look into that...

I would also appreciate a source for linen tape if you have any.

love this economical idea.
your projects are very inspiring!
Thank you for sharing.

great details and i like your labels!

The labels are fantastic! I'll have to try that method. Thanks for the tip. You and your details. ;-) Keep it up. All your work is beautiful. So happy to hear the folks at ReForm school loved your stuff. (Was there any doubt?) LOL!

sally, the labels are beautiful! i love the little details in life too...and i'm so glad that you are back to blogging, thank you for your sweet note this morning!

oh, swoooooo-oooooo-oooon!

I love it all.

I just ordered some of that fabric from purl and can't wait to see it. I think I'm going to do a long-sleeved tee shirt for my daughter and her friend who are having their sixth birthday party on Sat. I want to cut out a big number 6 from the ruler fabric and fuse it to the shirt!

i love your attention to detail, and as a new sewer, appreciate all of the effort. beautiful sewing is hard work, but so rewarding. i picked up a small wall + pocket and a card via a phone order to reform school (i'm in the northeast), and just can't wait to see the items in person!
