Over the weekend we went to our local farmers market, our first trip of the season. We started going to our farmers market seven years ago. It was a transitional period for our family, we had just moved from the bay area where we had a wonderful group of friends to Portland where we only knew a few acquaintances. J was only three months old and I had recently made the switch from spending my days working in a research lab, cranking out lengthy papers on parental involvement and reading educational psychology journal articles to taking care of a sweet baby boy. Twenty-four. Seven.
During the first year we would push J around in his stroller while Appah and I perused the aisles of the farmers market. We were introduced to fruit unique to Oregon, such as hood berries and marionberries.
During that first farmers market season we also discovered our favorite food vendor, Moh's Mobile Kitchen, which serves delicious Laotian food. Mr. + Mrs. Moh have seen our boys grow up over the years and we still head straight to their booth as soon as we arrive at the farmers market every Saturday morning. Last weekend was no different.
Mr. Moh always gives the boys an egg roll to eat while they make us our food.
And we always get an extra one with our order of chicken fried rice.
The salad rolls at MMK are my favorite. It is basically a spring roll with an egg roll wrapped inside. So. very. good.
After our bellies were full we sat and listened to the live entertainment.
Although this photograph doesn't show it, the boys were bouncing up and down in their chairs, well, until J's chair fell backwards. Lesson learned. I love how they appreciate music, particularly live music.
After the live entertainment we strolled through the aisles, looking for new goodies to bring home with us. This week I bought some leek bagels from Tastebud. They make Montreal style bagels in their wood-fired brick oven and they are SO good. We ate them all in one day. [Note to self: Buy a lot more next weekend!]
We also picked up a lemon poppy seed scone from Lavender Tea House and some homemade graham crackers + a red velvet cupcake from A Little Bit of Sweet.
Now that we're starting to think about landscaping for our backyard I've become more interested in looking at all the plants.
It is amazing how many varieties there are to choose from. I'm planning to buy this Korean Lilac Miss Kim based on the name alone [I used to be Miss Kim].
Looking forward to next week's trip to the farmers market!
