Birthday season is upon us. We have attended two parties in the last three days with several more around the corner. Life has been a bit busy lately so I didn't have time to make a gift for j's classmate. Instead I let j pick out the gift, which of course meant he picked out something he would really like for himself, a new box of legos.
Instead of wrapping the gift in our standard kraft paper with white twill tape, I let j decorate the "wrapping paper". I cut out a strip of kraft paper, put a piece of poster board underneath [to prevent any pen leaks from marking the table], and handed him one of my silver sharpie pens [my boys LOVE sharpie pens]. He had so much fun and it was a super quick and easy project.
We wrapped the box with our handmade wrapping paper, tied some silver twine and a handmade gift tag [rubber stamp with silver ink] around the package, and we were all set for the party.

April is birthday month in our family. My birthday is in a week and Big J's birthday is three days later. Today I was telling Melissa that I feel like I've lost a lot of brain cells since moving to Busan [ok, who am I kidding, I'm pretty sure the decline started after having my first child] because I just realized that I will turning 35 this year, not 36 [although my Korean age will be 36, so never mind]. Anyways, we're having an early birthday celebration next week with Big J's friends and then a smaller celebration on his actual birthday with my sister's family [who will be visiting from California]. Big J requested a "superhero" birthday party based on a drawing I did for him a few months ago. Freehand drawing is definitely not my forte, but Big J gave his stamp of approval so I suppose that's all that matters.
The color scheme of black + white + yellow was inspired by this photograph.
The invitations have been printed, packaged and delivered.
And the thank you cards are ready to be written in after the party. Now it is on to decorations + favors. More photographs to come!
