handmade valentines

Brides.com valentines cards

I twittered [or is it tweeted?] a few weeks ago about working on a Valentine's Day project. You can see my projects, two simple handmade Valentine's Day cards, over on Brides.com, along with seven other sweet projects. I am planning on making some valentines with the boys this weekend. They are smitten with these fun robot valentines.

Other cute valentine ideas:

+ Suann made some lovely valentine treat bags for her son's classmates.

+ Martha Stewart always has fun + cute valentines crafts.

breakfast at melissa's

Breakfastatmelissa

Happy [belated] 4th of July! We started off the day enjoying breakfast with Melissa's family. She made the most delicious meal--baked french toast, oven roasted potatoes and berries with fresh whipped cream. We dined outside under a big ol' tree, enjoying an unusually crisp summer morning. I had to laugh when my husband asked if I was going to take a photograph of the breakfast table before we started eating. Why, yes, brilliant idea! And I couldn't resist a shot of the boys eating + playing.

Bigjandsam

Later on in the day we went to our friend's annual 4th of July BBQ at the park. It was fun to catch up with people we haven't seen in several months. Good food and good friends, can't think of a better way to spend a long weekend.

Baby_shower_onesie_3

Thank you for all the nice comments regarding the baby shower gift. I had several questions about how I appliqued the onesies. This is a super easy project. Basically there are five steps: 1) iron on a fusible stabilizer to the backside of the fabric, 2) cut out the desired shape, 3) peel off the stabilizer backing, 4) iron on applique to garment, 5) machine/hand-stitch the applique. You can stitch along the edges of the applique, like I did here. If you choose not to stitch along the edge of the applique it may "fray" a little over time, but I tend to like this look. I hope this mini tutorial helps those who had questions.
