I am a visual person and a compulsive list maker. I'm always looking for ways to organize my studio and life in general. So what's a mother to do to help her juggle various deadlines while maintaining her belief that things can be functional, yet aethestically pleasing? Make a pin + strip, of course.
I bought a piece of wood [1.5"x 0.75" x 48"] and glued a layer of cork across one length of it. Using scraps of linen, I sewed several pieces together and stretched it over the wood, securing it with heavy duty staples. After covering the back with some wool felt [so the staples don't scratch the wall], I attached some wall hangers and voila, the pin + strip was ready to be put to work.
I also decided I wanted to make my own set of number push + pins. I printed numbers on to linen and then used a button maker kit to turn the printed linen into "buttons". After using some wire cutters + glue gun + tacks, presto, I had a set of coordinating number push + pins!
And lookie here, it appears I'm planning to make some pencil + cups for the good ol' S-H-O-P.
This is one of those projects that has been in my head for several years, so I'm happy I finally made it. I'll be tweaking the pin + strip design a bit, but I'm pleased with my first attempt. I'll definitely be making another one for the boys' playroom. I think it will be perfect for hanging their artwork [and a vast improvement over the masking tape-on-the-walls look we are currently sporting]. And I think smaller pin + strips would make great gifts [maybe I'll make a few for the S-H-O-P]. Now I'm off to tackle my "to do" list!

It is no secret I'm a huge fan of Uniform Studio. Maybe it is because I've always loved neutrals [grey + white have been some of my favorite colors since I was a pre-teen, unusual, but true] or because I wanted to be an architect or fashion designer when I was younger [Martha is both of these]. But really--the clean lines, simple yet innovative styling, perfect proportions--what's not to love? And Martha's attention to detail is consistent, from her packaging to the clothing she designs, everything looks like a piece of art.
So I couldn't have been more thrilled to open up these beautiful brown paper packages. What was inside? Muji goodness for the boys.
