Have you seen the latest issue of MS Living? I thought there were so many cute ideas in the "good things" section, which is really my favorite part of the magazine. I usually flip through the magazine at the market and if it looks good I pick it up. I haven't subscribed to MSL since early grad school years. But I see they've dropped the prices on subscriptions, so maybe I'll reconsider. I still subscibe to MS Weddings even though I've been married six years and if MS Kids was still in circulation, I would still be subscribing to that magazine. I used to be a magazine junkie, but I've cut back on the subscriptions because I just don't have the time to read them. And nothing is more annoying than piles of unread magazines. So I'm down to Gourmet [free subscription], Domino + MS Weddings. I think I'm going to replace Domino with Blueprint this year and add Dwell.
Anyways, back to the current issue of MSL. They had this fun butterfly craft. I happened to have these yellow lanterns leftover from the pack I bought for Big J's birthday party last year. I cut butterflies out of this wonderful thin textured white + gold paper [you can't see the detail in the photographs but the paper is really nice]. I like the patterned paper they used in MSL, but felt it would be a bit too busy for our home. So on one lantern I added yellow + white sequins to some of the butterflies and on the other lantern I added glitter to the edges of the butterflies.
The boys love the butterfly lanterns and had fun decorating their own butterflies. Which were soon destroyed as they threw them around in the backyard. Ah, you gotta love little boys.
We don't have any yellow in our house, so I wasn't sure where to hang these guys. I decided to place them above the kitchen sink and having them floating overhead has actually brightened up my dishwashing routine. Well, sort of. When I get tired of them I'll put them in the playroom. I also love the butterflies on straws idea [see photograph of magazine], so I'll have to try those out for our next BBQ.
And a bit more yellow + white, using MS tea towels from last season--a diaper + wipes holder. [Tell me, why didn't I pick up an extra pack of these towels?]
