I'm really glad we started Big J's Valentine's Day cards last week when we were all happy and healthy. [Yes, another nasty bug has hit our family. I suppose I should have been prepared for all the illnesses given that it is Big J's first year of school, but oh my goodness, I feel like we've been rotating illnesses since December!] Anyways, I was trying to come up with a few ideas that were not only simple + fun, but also a bit nontraditional. I've always loved those good ol' Martha Stewart Kids' heart-and-lollipop flowers, but I thought it would be cute to replace the lollipop with a pencil.
And instead of using colored cardstock to cut out the hearts I printed out four different designs [alphabet, mini hearts, "happy valentine's day" + "from your friend Big J"].
I originally wasn't planning on including any candy with Big J's cards, but he was really excited about giving his classmates some candy, so we decided to include a little sampler of candies Appah picked up while he was in Japan.
I printed out some labels so Big J could sign his name, we stuck the labels on to glassine bags, punched some holes on the sides, scalloped the top of the bag and poked the pencil through to keep the candy from falling out.
Big J loves his cards and can I tell you what a thrill it is to see how much this boy loves making things? Now I'm just hoping Big J will be well enough to attend his Valentine's Day party at school this week.
