Wow, time sure does fly! I can't believe Big J is already 6 years old, lost 6 teeth so far and had his first day of first grade today! He had a fantastic day and is adjusting well to school back in the States. We are resuming our routine of bringing homemade lunches to school [he ate hot lunches in Busan] and knowing my boys are not big fans of sandwiches, I decided I would try to pack some of their favorite foods. Both boys have requested various korean soups + rice which I knew would not work in their old lunchboxes. So I did a bit of research and picked up some Zojirushi bento lunch jars at Uwajimaya. So far, so good. Big J reported the soup was still hot when he ate it at lunch time.
The lunch jar comes with a carrying bag, but of course I wanted to make one myself. Totally inspired by the bag Melissa made for Paul, I sewed up a gusseted drawstring bag with a big pocket on the outside. I wanted to pick up some dog tags with the boys' names engraved on them, but the selection wasn't so great at our local pet store [dog bones, hearts, uh, no thank you!], so I made a simple one using our favorite Dymo label maker, scrap of cardboard and safety pin. We'll see how long it lasts!
